Tipico Strikes Colorado Sportsbook Access Deal, GAN Launches Simulated Sports Betting in Ohio

Latest news from two sports betting brands

Tipico now has market access to launch an online sportsbook in Colorado after partnering with Century Casinos, while GAN is rolling out simulated sports betting in Ohio.

German sports betting operator Tipico signed a ten-year deal with Century Casinos, with the latter holding a master sports betting license in Colorado. The company still needs to get its own license from the state authorities to be able to launch. It already has a sports betting license in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, online gaming software provider GAN announced its new free-to-play betting experience in Ohio as its latest product expansion:

The offering will be available in partnership with Jack Entertainment through PlayJACK.com. Customers can place bets on sports for entertainment purposes, with no money involved. 

Tipico to enter Colorado

With the October 12 announcement, Tipico becomes the third online operator to partner with Century Casinos, along with Bet365 and Circa Sports.

Century Casinos will receive a one-time market access fee, as well as a minimum guarantee of annual revenue and a percentage of the net gaming revenue as part of the deal. Tipico will use its own sports betting technology to power the sportsbook. 

The managing director of Tipico’s US business, Adrian Vella, spoke about the operator’s excitement after signing the Colorado deal. He said the company is ready to bring its “fully mobile sports betting experience to Colorado and introduce sports fans throughout the state to our brand and proprietary technology.”

German operator’s growing presence

The German operator is intent on exploring new horizons by expanding into the US market. In September, it got conditional approval from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement to launch a sportsbook. Its partner in the state is the Ocean Casino and Resort in Atlantic City; the betting platform is not yet live.

There are also plans to launch an online casino powered by Scientific Games in New Jersey. Tipico has an agreement with NetEnt that will see the leading games developer supplying it with table games and slots.

There was more good news yesterday for the operator, with the German authorities announcing Tipico as one of the first 15 operators to receive an official sports betting license in the country.

GAN’s Ohio expansion

As well as Tipico’s deal with Century Casinos, GAN also announced the launch of its simulated sports betting offering in Ohio on October 12. GAN signed a deal with Jack Entertainment in September 2019 to power the casino company’s online sportsbooks if and when sports betting becomes legal in Ohio.

The launch of the simulated gaming offering will allow both pre-game and in-play betting markets, powered by GAN’s sports betting technology partner Kambi. Bettors will also be able to compare their performances with others who are placing wagers in the state. 

Legal sports betting is at a bit of a standstill in Ohio. The House of Representatives passed a bill earlier in 2020 that would legalize online and retail sports betting. However, the bill has been in the Senate since June, with no progress made on the matter since.

The idea behind GAN’s free-to-play offering is that of “acquiring future sports gamblers online today, at a lower marketing cost than the expected cost tomorrow, once the real money regulated sports betting market commences.”

GAN vice president of gaming operations Rom Ustunel outlined that the supplier is looking to also offer the simulated betting experience to retail casino operators in other regions across the country.
